Adam Thorin Croft currently lectures on Asian polities and the legacies of empire in Asia at the Australian National University (ANU), where he recently completed a PhD in Philosophy. He originally trained as a filmmaker at Goldsmiths (University of London), where he developed an interest in Japanese mass media. Pursing this interest, he was later awarded a full scholarship from the Japanese Student Services Organization (JASSO) to study Japanese at Keio University (2007). In 2012, Adam received the International Alliance of Research Universities (IARU) travel bursary and the ANU Vice-Chancellor’s Higher Degree Research Travel Grant to conduct his fieldwork at the Interfaculty Initiative in Information Studies, University of Tokyo.

Current research interests include the history of media, communicaiton theory, gender-based identity politics, literary theory and translation.
