Angie Bexley is the Deputy Director of the Children's Policy and Centre and Senior Research Fellow at the Poverty and Inequality Centre. 

Over the last twenty years, Angie has conducted extensive fieldwork in Indonesia and Timor-Leste and published on issues of intergenerational politics, minorities and the drivers of social exclusion and poverty, and fieldwork. Her co-edited book with Dr Maj Nygaard-Christensen is titled "Fieldwork in Timor Leste: Understanding Social Change through Practice".

Angie has designed, managed, evaluated and provided advice to major DFAT funded projects throughout the Asia pacific and has worked for organisations including The Asia Foundation, Oxfam, The Carter Center, and Plan International. 

Angie is currently a Senior Research Fellow on the ARC project, "Understanding Childhood Poverty in Indonesia" and Senior Research Fellow at the Poverty and Inequlaity Research Centre. She is the lead author of the Individual Deprivation Measure Indonesia Country Study and also contributes to the analysis on gender and poverty and stakeholder engagement with the Indonesian government.

Angie's current research intersects childhood poverty, youth studies, gender and tolerance, and international development. Her current projects include:

1) Angie is currently a Senior Research Fellow on the Australian Research Council Discovery Grant DP170100657 "Understanding and Assessing Childhood Poverty in Indonesia" with Professor Sharon Bessell. This research aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of childhood poverty in Indonesia, with direct implications for measuring, understanding and responding to child poverty both in Indonesia and globally. This project is expected to contribute to the Individual Deprivation Measure- the world's first gender sensitive poverty measure. 

2) Angie was the lead writer for the Indonesia Country Study for the Individual Deprivation Measure, the world's first gender-sensitive multidimensional measure. Angie continues to co-lead stakeholder engagement with the Indonesian government on policy implications. 

3)  Angie's other current research project focuses on Gender and Tolerance Approaches in Indonesia. This project aims to contribute understandings of young women's perspectives on concepts such as radicalism, tolerance and intolerance in order to contribute new methodological approaches and formulate effective and meaningful policy responses that include young women in tolerance building.

4) Angie has a long-term interest in inter-generational change and politics in Timor-Leste and publishes with her colleague, Dr Maj Nygaard-Christensen.

5) In May 2014, Angie launched an inter-discplinary project with chef, Jon Priadi, The Culture Kitchen FoodLab. This exploARTive project illuiminates the culinary and art developments across Canberra, Australia and Yogyakarta, Indonesia. www.culturekitchenfoodlab.wordpress.com
