Researcher's projects

Under contract to Routledge, Emily is currently writing a book on English in China which explores Chinese perceptions of the English language and how it has potentially influenced 'Chineseness'. Spanning Sociolinguistics, Chinese Studies, Cultural Studies and Media Studies, it will dispel superficial assumptions about the role of English in China, how Chinese people view this language and its dominance in a globalised world and the idea of Chinese identity.

Emily is also researching the translanguaging practice of Chinese people that involves Mandarin Chinese, dialects and English.
