Glyn Davis is the Chief Executive Officer of the Paul Ramsay Foundation, Australia's largest philantrhopic trust, and chair-elect of Opera Australia.

He is also a Distinguished Professor of Political Science in the Crawford School of Public Policy and Chair of the ANZSOG Research Committee. In 2018 Professor Davis was also elected a Visiting Professor at the Blavatnik School of Government and a Visiting Fellow at Exeter College, Oxford. Professor Davis holds visiting appointments at Kings College London, Manchester University and the Faculty of Arts, University of Melbourne. 

Professor Davis was educated in political science at the University of New South Wales (Bachelor of Arts Hons 1) and the Australian National University (PhD) before undertaking post-doctoral appointments as a Harkness Fellow at the University of California Berkeley, the Brookings Institution in Washington DC and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

He served as Vice-Chancellor of Griffith University from January 2002, and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Melbourne from January 2005 until October 2018.

Professor Davis teaches and researches in the field of public policy. His public-sector service includes terms as the Director-General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet in Queensland and Foundation Chair of the Australia and New Zealand School of Government.

He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia and a Companion in the Order of Australia.  He has served as Chair of the Group of Eight, Chair of Universities Australia and Chair of Universitas 21.

In 2008 Professor Davis co-chaired the Australia 2020 Summit. He has served on a number of Commonealth reviews, most recently as a member of the Independent Review of the Australian Public Service.

In 2010 Professor Davis presented the Boyer Lectures, published as The Republic of Learning. His recent books include The Australian Idea of a University and the 6thedition of The Australian Policy Handbook with Catherine Althaus and Peter Bridgman.

In his part-time role at the University, Professor Davis works from ANU House in Collins Street, Melbourne.
