Professor Harold Crouch is a professor in the Department of Political and Social Change, Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, Australian National University. He obtained his BA from the University of Melbourne, his MA from the University of Bombay and his PhD from Monash University. He taught political science at the University of Indonesia, the National University of Malaysia and the University of the Philippines before joining the Australian National University. His books include Trade Unions and Politics in India (1967), The Army and Politics in Indonesia (1978) and Government and Politics in Malaysia (1996). In early 2000 he established the Indonesia office of the International Crisis Group and served as director of the ICG's Indonesia project until February 2002 when he returned to the ANU.
