Biography

Born in Boston, MA, USA, 10/12/1932; educated at US Coast Guard Academy; Northeastern University (Electrical Engineering); BA from University of Michigan (History and Government), Ann Arbor, Mich., 1957;  MA (1959) and PhD (1965), Harvard University (Regional Studies–Soviet Union and Political Science).

Teaching Experience:  Washington University, St. Louis MO 1964–67; State University of NY at Stony Brook, 1967–68; University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, 1969–73;  Australian National University, Canberra, 1973–present.

Research experience:  Exchange scholar in USSR 1962–63 (research for PhD); Fulbright scholar in Yugoslavia 1970, 1971–72; research travel in Balkans, Eastern Europe, USA and FRG, various years to present.

Research interests

Eastern Europe and Russian foreign policy.
