I have continued research on China's foreign policy, its relationship with the US and the region and on regional responses to globalisation, with particular emphasis on China and Northeast Asia. Other areas of current research include the foreign policy elements of energy developments and of religion.

Career highlights

Head, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (1984–1988); Director, Centre for Resource and Environmental Studies, ANU (!982–1984); Deputy Secretary, Department of Trade (1972–1975); Director, Bureau of Agricultural Economics (1967–1972).

Research interests

China's international relations, especially with the US; regional, notably Northeast Asian, economic, political and strategic developments; US and Australian foreign policy.
