Abstract
The research project 'Belarusian Anzacs' concentrates on the destiny of about forty Belarusian natives who entered the ranks of the Australian army during WWI. Earlier, pre-revolutionary Belarusian emigration remains outside the purview of both Soviet and contemporary historians, due to conflicting political sympathies and the scarcity of records. This project is an attempt to study a representative group of early emigrants using a prosopographical method. In close connection with the history of the recipient country, it examines individual life stories and studies questions of ethnic and political identity, patriotism and assimilation
