    Abstract

This volume focused on the shared experiences of displacement. We found similar threads and interwoven patterns in the community responses to displacement: the disorientation, dissonance and social disarticulation; the fear and marginalisation; the emerging protest; the building of stratagems and tactics that may succeed or fail; the coping strategies; even the emergence of community-led, negotiated solutions. We do know, from such case study research, that people exercise their agency in multiple ways.
