    Abstract

As the success and sustainability of an intervention is ultimately determined by the population in the country affected, this chapter considers East Timorese expectations and experiences of INTERFET. To do so it draws on the perspectives of members of the East Timorese Students Association in Australia, who were present during the referendum and when INTERFET deployed.
