The South China Sea: stabilisation and resolution

    Abstract

Many proposals for a resolution of the dispute have been made in the past. Resolution demands the acceptance of the status quo, and while Vietnam and the Philippines would be pleased at the prospect, it would be only an impediment to Chinese ambitions. It would be fantasy to imagine that such proposals would be accepted at the present time by China against its interests when it has the hope and expectation of obtaining acceptance of its extensive claim.
