    Vietnam was a full-spectrum campaign that encompassed all aspects of war, from political subversion to conventional warfare. This chapter will served as a general introduction to the war, and as a foundation form which to delve deeper into the complexity of the war and the possible reasons for the final defeat of the United States and the Republic of Vietnam. readers will need to decide for themselves where the role of counterinsurgency fits into the picture.
